چکیده
MATERIALS and METHODS Two patients were studied serially: (A) a 19 year old man with clinically definite MS and (B) a 30 year old woman with probable MS (previous episode of optic neuritis 3 months earlier) who both presented with clinical relapses ((A) right hemiparesis; (B) hemianopia, left hemiparesis)). They were studied over 4 months with MRI (on days: (A) 0, 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 18, 20, 25, 62, 85, 115; (B) 0, 5, 7, 11, 16, 23, 33, 65, 93, 121) and volume selective MR 1H spectroscopy @IRS) (3 studies each): 1. a) Proton density-, Tz-, Tr-weighted, b) isotropic diffusionweighted (DW) EPI (5 b values=O-1000s/mm2), c) Magnetisation Transfer Ratio (MTR) (FLASH 3D, 40 ms/ 5 ms/ FLIP 12 O), d) Ti-weighted 5 and 15 minutes after 0.2 mmol/kg (“double dose“) Gadodiamid-DTPA. 2. MRS (TR 1500 ms/TE lo+135 ms, 2 cm”)

Relationship between Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Multiple Sclerosis: A Review Study
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that inflammation, demyelination, oligodendrocyte loss, gliosis, axonal injury and neurodegeneration are the main histopathological hallmarks of the disease. Although MS was classically thought as a demyelinating disease, but axonal injury occurs commonly in acute inflammatory lesions. In MS mi...
متن کاملSerial diffusion-weighted MR imaging and proton MR spectroscopy of acute large demyelinating brain lesions: case report.
We present the serial MR studies of two patients with symptomatic acute large demyelinating lesions that initially showed a drop in apparent diffusion coefficient values. Baseline proton MR spectroscopy showed a slight decrease in N-acetylaspartate and a normal choline level. An excess of lactate was observed at the first examinations and completely disappeared by the final examinations. The ti...
متن کاملP 153: Neuroinflammation in Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex disease which is correlated with increasing inflammatory factors, demyelination and axonal loss. In this auto-immune disease, Neuroinflammation is mediated by different types of T cells with macrophage/microglial activation and B cells involvement that interact in a collaborative manner. Focal inflammation is the main cause for the onset of relapses and coul...
متن کاملO17: Inflammation in Brain and Spinal Cord
our goal in this paper is to describe and compare basic immunopathologic pattern of common demyelinating disorder, that is very important to choose the best treatment. The most common disorders are multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica,Anti MOG associated disease,ADEM and autoimmune encephalitis. ADEM consists of ‘‘sleeves’’ of demyelination centered on small, engorge...
متن کاملQuantification of blood-brain-barrier permeability dysregulation and inflammatory activity in MS lesions by dynamic-contrast enhanced MR imaging
Objective: Measurement of blood-brain permeability dysfunction in active and chronic MS lesions with T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to show variation in inflammatory activity Background: blood-brain-barrier perfusion characterization impaired in MS as some studies have shown recently buta comparison between perfusion parameters in contrast-enhanced and non-enhanced lesions not have ...
